How to Make KVM Over IP Switches
KVM is short for keyboard, video and mouse. If you need to control a number of computers via an Ethernet controller from a single set of controls, you can use a KVM-over-IP switch. Once you have set up your switch, you can then make the KVM connections to your various devices. Contemporary KVM-over-IP switches are incredibly powerful, allowing you to enlist multiple local users to various switches. The switches can be interlinked to create very large KVM networks. KVM originally allowed you access to computers with one set of peripherals.
Instructions

1
Connect your monitor to the VGA or DVI jack on the back of your switch.
-
2
Connect your USB mouse and keyboard. Depending on your switch, you may have to connect PS/2 peripherals, though most switches now use USB.
-
-
3
Connect the switch to your power supply.
-
4
Connect an Ethernet cable in the first jack of your IP switch to your first network computer. Repeat this for all computers you wish to connect.
-
5
Insert the installation disc into the computer that is connected to the first Ethernet port of your computer. Install the admin software from that computer. This will grant you access to the switch for future connections. The onscreen wizard will guide you through the setup process. Once the setup is complete, you have made a KVM-over-IP switch. Using your KVM, you will now be able to access any connected computers.
