How to Install a Perko Battery Switch

When you have a vehicle that uses two batteries, such as an RV or a boat, every time you run the engine both batteries are used. This drains a lot of battery power because most of the time you don't need to run both batteries simultaneously. That's where a dual battery switch, such as a Perko battery switch, comes in handy. Connecting your batteries to this one switch allows you to switch between batteries.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate both batteries you intend to hook up and remove the nuts above the positive terminals on the battery.

    • 2

Unplug the engine battery cable running from the engine to the battery.

    • 3

Turn your Perko battery switch over and locate the three ports on the back. Unscrew the nuts covering the ports.

    • 4

Connect one end of the included meter wires to the positive port on one of the batteries. Connect the end of the wire to the port labeled "1" on the back of the switch. This particular battery will now be selected when the dial on the front of the switch is set to "1."

    • 5

Run one end of the remaining switch wire to the positive terminal on the remaining battery. Run the end of that wire to the port labeled "2" on the back of the switch. This battery will be selected when the dial on the front of the switch is set to "2."

    • 6

Run the engine battery cable to the remaining port on the back of the switch. Replace all nuts over the ports on the back of the switch.
