How to Clean a Moist-N-Aire Humidifier

Humidifiers, like any other home appliance, become dirty with use. Moist-N-Aire humidifiers are mostly used for humidifying cigar desktop humidifiers or rooms but can also be used to humidify rooms to reduce dust and allergens. Because humidifiers use distilled water, a residue builds up with regular use and the unit must be cleaned to work properly and keep minerals from being circulated into the air. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Clean the Moist-N-Aire's Base

    • 1

Unplug your Moist-N-Aire humidifier. Remove the water receptacle from the base and set it aside. Placing it in one side of a kitchen sink to drain is best.

    • 2

Pour 8 to 10 oz. of white vinegar into the Moist-N-Aire humidifier's base and let sit for 30 to 40 minutes, shaking the base in a circular motion occasionally to swirl the white vinegar around the walls of the base.

    • 3

Gently scrub the Moist-N-Aire base with a soft-bristled brush to remove any mineral residue from the base. Then rinse the vinegar from the base with warm water and add another 8 to 10 oz. of white vinegar to the base. Repeat the process once more to thoroughly remove any mineral residue. Rinse and brush again with warm water and turn it upside down to air dry.

    Clean the Moist-N-Aire's Water Receptacle

    • 4

Place the humidifier in a well-ventilated area to avoid bleach fumes. Take the drained water receptacle from the sink and pour in 1 tsp. of chlorine bleach for each gallon the receptacle holds. For instance, if the receptacle holds 2 gallons, you would add 2 tsp. of chlorine bleach. If the water receptacle holds 5 gallons, add 5 tsp. of bleach.

    • 5

Fill the Moist-N-Aire base with warm water and allow to sit for 45 minutes to an hour, occasionally swirling the water receptacle in a circular motion to shake up the bleach-water mixture and disinfect the receptacle.

    • 6

Pour the bleach-water mixture out of the receptacle and rinse with warm water until the bleach odor is completely removed. Your Moist-N-Aire humidifier is now cleaned and disinfected. Refill it with water and reassemble it for use.
