How to Wear Horn-Rimmed Safety Glasses

How to Wear Horn-Rimmed Safety Glasses thumbnail
Horn-rimmed safety glasses differ from "regular" safety goggles in several ways.

Regardless of the styling of your safety goggles, it is vital that you use them correctly. Horn-rimmed glasses have certain features you need to be aware of to ensure they offer adequate eye protection. According to WiseGeek, horn-rimmed safety glasses are best-suited to "office workers and engineers who must make occasional visits to the shop area." Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Avoid debris that may fly at you from the sides. One of the defining features of horn-rimmed glasses is that they do not provide any protection from the sides when you're working.

    • 2

Ensure the glasses are pushed tightly against your face. Because there is no elasticated band holding the glasses against your face (like many of the safety glasses you will find in science labs or workshops) you have to manually make sure there are no gaps that debris can pass through.

    • 3

Check the glasses for any cracks or breaches of their integrity before use. These could make them dangerous. Replace the glasses or correct any deficiencies.

    • 4

Check the glasses' safety coating. Replace them if the lenses are not made of a polycarbonate composite or shatterproof glass.
