How to Clean Wool Sisal Carpet
Sisal wool rugs blend wool with natural fibers from the Agave sisalana plant. Woven together, they create a durable, yet soft and flexible rug. Cleaning a sisal wool rug too frequently or with harsh methods can cause the wool to pull out and the sisal fibers to break down. Use gentle methods appropriate for regular or deep cleaning of sisal wool to maintain your rug and keep it looking good for years. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Pick up your sisal wool rug by its ends. Take it outside and shake it out at least once a week for general dusting as frequent vacuuming can damage the wool. If you're dealing with a large area rug that you can't take outside, skip this step.
-
2
Vacuum the rug with a rug beater-bar attachment using side-to-side and up-and-down motions at least once a month to deep clean it. Perform this step weekly if you can't carry the rug outside every week to shake out the dirt. Additionally, vacuum immediately whenever a dry spill occurs to prevent stains. If necessary, first pry hardened or sticky materials from the surface with a spoon.

3
Blot away a fresh liquid spill with white microfiber cloths to absorb as much of the liquid as possible. If you're dealing with a colored liquid and stain from something like tomato sauce or red wine, blot the rug as much as possible to absorb the liquid and then blot again with fresh white cloths dampened with carbonated water until the stain fades. Blot the dampened area with dry cloths until you no longer see moisture transferred to the cloth.

4
Remove a tough or old stain by blotting it with a slightly soapy microfiber cloth until it fades. Rinse away the soap by blotting with a slightly damp cloth. Blot the area with dry cloths.

Tips & Warnings
Whenever you use water to blot spots on your rug, dry it out immediately with a dehumidifier, fan or hair dryer on the "No heat" setting to prevent damage to the sisal fibers.
Always blot a liquid stain from the edge to the center to prevent the staining material from spreading into the back of the rug or onto clean, nearby top areas.
Never scrub or rub a stain.
Never saturate the rug by soaking, steam cleaning or wet deep cleaning it.
Never vacuum against the binding of your rug. Instead, vacuum in the same direction as the stitches.
Never use heat to dry your rug.
