How to Transfer Credits From Other Colleges
Many students now attend multiple schools during their college careers. Generally, regionally accredited colleges and universities in the United States will accept transfer credits from other accredited colleges and universities. The decision to accept individual transfer credits for completed coursework ultimately lies with the registrar's office at the school you want to transfer the credits to. Therefore, to transfer credits you should order official transcripts from every college or university that you have attended and request an evaluation of transcript report from the school you want to transfer the credits to.

Contact the registrar's office at the school you want to transfer the credits to. Find out how to submit transcripts to the registrar's office for the purpose of transferring credits from another college. Some schools will allow you to mail or deliver the transcripts to the school. Other schools will require the official transcript to come directly from the other school.

Contact the registrar's office at every college you have attended and earned college-level credit. Find out how to request an official transcript. Many colleges utilize an online system for ordering transcripts. Alternatively, at some schools you can order your official transcript by telephone, fax, mail or in person. Pay the required fee. Most registrar's offices will charge a small fee to issue an official transcript. Update the delivery address for the official transcript.

Deliver or mail the official transcripts to the registrar's office at the school you want to transfer the credits to. If your previous schools sent the transcripts directly to your new school, follow up with the registrar's office to make sure the school received the transcripts.

Request an evaluation of transcript report for all of your transcripts. The registrar's office at your new school will evaluate your transcript and award you transfer credit as applicable. The registrar's office may not award transfer credit for all of your coursework. Most schools will mail the transcript report to you in approximately 30 days.
