How to Install a Security System in a Toyota
Most Toyota vehicles come with a pre-installed alarm system. However, older models with either no alarm system or an outdated system are ripe for a new upgrade. Before installing the system yourself, make sure you have a good understanding of both the wiring and electrical systems of your Toyota. It should take two to three hours to install, but it's worth the time and effort since it will provide additional security for your car and valuables.

1
Turn off the Toyota's engine and set the hand brake.
-
2
Purchase a car alarm that is designed for a Toyota. You should be able to find one from your local Toyota dealer or auto parts store. Read the alarm manual very carefully as all vehicle security systems are different in terms of connecting processes and wiring components. Make sure you have everything you need and that there are no missing parts in the alarm kit.

3
Open the car hood and disable the positive battery cable. Once it has been disabled, connect the alarm power cord to the positive battery cable and run it along the cable on the driver's side.
-
4
Mount the alarm siren according to the instructions in the alarm manual. Feed the wires into the cabin of the firewall. Some models might require drilling a hole through the firewall for access.
-
5
Find a highly visible location for the LED light and drill a hole for it. Snap the LED in place and run the wire under the dashboard by the steering wheel. Search for the power lock relay system and connect the alarm lock module.
-
6
Install the shock sensor per the directions from the alarm manual. Connect the alarm system wires to the alarm control module. Attach this module into the far end of the dash with zip ties.
-
7
Re-install the positive battery cable. Test the alarm to see if it works properly. Adjust the level of noise if needed and use additional zip ties to secure any loose wires.
