Park the John Deere lawn tractor on a level work surface. Put the tractor in gear and set the parking brake securely to prevent the tractor from rolling while work is being performed.

2
Position a jack under the center point of the front axle. Raise the jack to lift the John Deer mower off the ground. Place a wood block under the axle to securely hold the tractor off the ground while working.

Loosen the bolt holding the mower blade and washers in place under the deck with a socket wrench. Pull the bolt, blade and washer assembly from the spindle under the John Deere tractor mower deck. Observe the assembled position of the blade and washers on the bolt.

5
Assemble the washers and a new blade on the blade bolt. Position the blade assembly under the John Deere mowing deck and thread the bolt into the spindle. Finger-tighten the bolt as much as possible.

6
Place the block of wood against the inside of the mower deck and wedge it in place with the blade. Tighten the blade securely with the socket wrench.

7
Repeat the blade removal and installation steps for a second blade mounted under the deck if necessary. Remove the block of wood from under the deck and from under the front axle. Lower the jack and move out of the way before mowing.
