How to Do Glazing With Marbles
There are many kinds of glazes for many different objects. Pottery glaze is made from glass particles and fired in an oven to harden over the clay. Another kind of glaze, often used for wood and furniture, is a painted glaze. This glaze adds a glossy finish to wood. One way to add a glaze over wood is to use marbles to apply a wax glaze. This gives a finish that is unusual and interesting to look at. The marbles roll the glaze around over the object, which produces a swirled effect over the wood.

1
Stain or paint the wood before placing it into the tumbling machine. You can use whatever kind of paint or stain you want. Allow the paint or stain to dry for two or more hours before attempting to add the glaze.

2
Cut the wax into small squares. Fill the bottom of the tumbling machine with 1/3 wax, 1/3 marbles and 1/3 wood pieces. Fill the machine about 1/3 of the way full. Close the lid and latch it tightly.

Turn the wood together with the wax and marbles for about 1 1/2 hours. You can tumble the wood together by hand, or you can hook the machine up to a pulley system. If you do choose to use an automated tumbling machine, make sure that the RPM does not go above 90, or else the marbles can damage the wood.

Remove everything from the barrel. Replace the wood pieces inside the barrel, and fill the barrel 1/3 of the way with cloth squares. Turn the barrel for an additional 30 minutes to shine the wood and remove any excess wax from the wood. This will give the glaze a shiny appearance.
