Electric fireplaces come in a variety of shapes and sizes to fit any room décor. The electric fireplace operates much like a portable space heater, blowing hot air into the room to make it more comfortable. The electric fireplace adds to the heat by producing a simulated flame for aesthetics only. Like a space heater, your electric fireplace could produce a clicking noise when turned on initially. This noise is often the result of the heating coils expanding. Troubleshoot your fireplace and make any necessary repairs if the sound persists.

Step 1
Turn off your electric fireplace. Unplug the fireplace from the wall outlet.

Access the blower motor. Depending on the manufacturer of your electric fireplace, you need to remove the front grill or pull the unit from the back of the hearth.
Step 3
Vacuum the blower motor to remove any dirt and debris that could cause the clicking noise. Replace the front grill or slide the unit back into the hearth. Plug your electric fireplace into the wall outlet and turn on the unit.
Replace Heater Assembly
Step 1
Turn off your electric fireplace. Unplug the fireplace from the wall outlet.
Step 2
Access the heater assembly on your electric fireplace. Remove the front trim or pull the fireplace from the rear of the hearth. How you access the heater assembly for your fireplace depends upon the manufacturer of your unit. This could include removing the decorative glass front, the firebox and the light bulbs that give the fake logs and flame their glow.
Step 3
Remove the screws holding the heater assembly in your electric fireplace. Pull the quick-connect electrical wire connectors from the assembly and place them onto the replacement heater assembly at the same locations.
Step 4
Attach the replacement heater assembly in your fireplace. Reverse the order of disassembly to reassemble your electric fireplace. Plug your electric fireplace into the wall outlet and turn on the unit.
