A family history report is an exciting project.

A family history report is a report that follows your family's history from you to as far back as you can find records for. A family history report is a multi-step process that will take some time to complete. However, if you put in the necessary time and research, you will have a detailed presentation that will please your teacher and also please your family. You may even learn something along the way. Don't worry if you can't go very far back. Even a family history that only goes to your great-grandparents is interesting.

Instructions

    • 1

Trace your family tree back as far as possible on both sides. Talk to your grandparents or other older relatives. They are likely to know more about your family's history. Write down all of the information that they tell you.

    • 2

Find as many old photographs of family members as you can. Copy the pictures to save the originals and use the copies in your report. Identify as many of the people in the photos as possible. Enlist the help of other family members to identify the photos. Write down the information that you find.

    • 3

Search online for more information about family members. There is a wealth of family history information online. You may be able to find out a lot about where your family came from and even more distant relatives.

    • 4

Place as much of the following information as possible into your report: the birth or baptism date of each family member, the location of their birth, the date they were married and who they married, any children that they had and the date of death.

    • 5

Add any stories about each person into the book. If your grandparents or other relatives have a funny or interesting story about a family member, put that in the book under their name.

    • 6

Make a family tree drawing using the written information you gathered. Place yourself and any siblings on the bottom branches of the tree, then work your way up from there.

    • 7

Make a presentation of the information you located onto a large piece of foam board. Place some of the photographs, the family tree and some of the written report onto the board to present to the class.
