How to Hide a Ball for 5th Wheel Towing

How to Hide a Ball for 5th Wheel Towing thumbnail
Towing an RV requires a 5th wheel hitch.

Pulling heavy vehicles such as an RV requires the use of fifth-wheel towing. Special trailer hitches must be installed on a truck to equip them to handle the loads. Some of these trailer hitches include a ball, similar to that used in lower weight towing. During the times you aren't towing a load behind your vehicle, you may want to hide the ball. The best way to do this is to use a hitch cover.

Instructions

    • 1

Select the type of ball hitch cover you want to use. Add decoration to the ball by hiding it with a novelty cover like a sports team logo or cartoon head. Hide it in a more traditional way by covering it with a plain colored basic cover.

    • 2

Purchase the cover. Covers are sold at automotive shops in many areas. If you can't locate a hitch in person online, retailers offer a nice alternative.

    • 3

Clean the area around the ball to remove any dirt or grease.

    • 4

Place the hitch cover over the ball. Most snap directly into place while others require you to attach it by means of a clip and pin.
