How to Make a Door Bell for a School Project

Constructing a door bell as a school project is an effective way to understand the basics of electric circuits. Putting together a door bell will teach the student the basics of electricity, circuits and energy conversion. Although a battery can be used as the main source of energy, the student can experiment with different forms of energy and converting then into electricity.

  • Chime
  • Battery

Instructions

    • 1

      Cut two parts of black wire, each a foot long. Cut one part of red wire, a foot long. Strip off the edges of each wire.

      Connect one end of the black wire to the positive prong of the chime. Connect the other end to the doorbell button attachment. The positive prong will be denoted by a "+" sign. The negative prong will be denoted by a "-" sign.

      Connect one end of the other black wire to the positive prong of the doorbell button. The other end of the wire should hang free.

      Connect the red wire to the negative attachment of the doorbell. The other end should hang free.

      Connect the free end of the black wire to the positive end of the battery. Connect the free end of the red wire to the negative end of the battery. Press the doorbell button and the doorbell will chime.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure you wear rubber gloves and rubber-soled shoes to avoid getting electric shocks.
