How to Use a Pen Tablet to Write thumbnail
Use the tips that follow to begin writing with your pen tablet.

Although scanning a handwritten document onto your computer for use as a digital file is straightforward enough, it can be time-consuming and inconvenient. A digital pen tablet can be used to create artwork and documents that don't need to be scanned. When connected to your PC or laptop, a pen tablet allows you to create original, handcrafted files in real time. These tablets are often used by digital artists, or in instances when an authentic signature is required on a digital document.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the CD-ROM that came bundled with the pen tablet to install its software. Follow the instructions that appear on the prompt window to complete the installation. Restart your computer if the prompt recommends it.

    • 2

Connect the pen tablet to your computer via USB cable. A cable is usually bundled with the tablet and software, but a cable also can be bought cheaply from any computer electronics retailer.

    • 3

Turn on your pen tablet. Most devices have a power switch near the top of the frame, but some can be powered on by touching the stylus to the middle of the writing pad.

    • 4

Run the tablet's software if your computer does not execute it automatically.

    • 5

Maneuver within the software's interface by moving the stylus across the pad, as you would a handheld mouse. Click on buttons or menu tabs by pressing the tip of the stylus onto the pad.

    • 6

Select "Writing" mode from the top of the software's toolbar. Although software layouts might differ, the tablet's available modes, including "Drawing" and "Image Edit," usually appear along the top or side of the interface.

    • 7

Write by pressing the stylus firmly against the pad, forming each word clearly and deliberately.

Tips & Warnings

  • Read your specific tablet's user's manual before use. Depending on the age and model of your tablet, operational details can vary.

  • Open any documents you wish to sign or write on by choosing "File > Open" from the top of the software interface. Save your work by selecting "File > Save As ... "
