How to Install Gossamer for a Wedding Reception
Gossamer is a thin, lightweight fabric that can be used in swags, bows or wall coverings at a wedding reception. The material, which can be rented or purchased at fabric stores, is perfect for covering unsightly walls and ceilings at your venue. Since gossamer is a fabric the drapes easily, you can create a beautiful, stunning gossamer ceiling tent.
Things You'll Need
- Gossamer strips (60" to 107" wide)
- Metal ring
- Staple gun
- Measuring tape
- Wire

Instructions

1
Find the center of the reception hall using measuring tape and measuring inward from all upper corners of the room to the center of the ceiling. Mark the center location with a pencil.
-
2
Measure for the length of gossamer you will need. Start from the center point of the ceiling, across to a corner of the room, and down the length of the wall. Allow a few extra feet for gathering and draping. This will be the length of gossamer you need to drape the ceilings and still allow for some fabric to cover the walls down to the floor of the reception hall. Also measure the length of the each wall to determine how many strips of gossamer fabric you will need.

3
Purchase or rent strips of gossamer in the size needed. Figure out the length of the walls versus the width of the gossamer to determine how many gossamer strips you will need. The wider the walls, the more strips you will need.
-
4
Install a decorative hook at the mid-point of the ceiling. Purchase a hook with the highest weight limit to ensure it will stay properly secured to the ceiling during your event. You may need more than one if you end up needing more gossamer than what the hook will support.
-
5
Suspend the metal ring from the center room hook.
-
6
Install wiring around where the ceiling and walls meet. This will create the holding area for the gossamer to meet the corners and drape downward.
-
7
Gather the tops of the gossamer together and secure with a staple gun, wire, or other alternative to bundle the gossamer fabric together at the top. The gossamer will be laced through the metal ring.
-
8
Pull the grouped gossamer through the metal ring, and secure using more wire or staples.
-
9
Pull the strips of gossamer toward the corners of the room and spread them out to create a full covering of the ceiling.
-
10
Slip the strips of gossamer behind the wire running along the top edge of the room. Loosen so that the gossamer drapes nicely across the ceiling and let the remaining fabric hang loosely along the walls.

Tips & Warnings
The smaller the room, the easier the project is to complete.
Gossamer and tulle are both sheer fabrics, but tulle is more sheer while gossamer has a more opaque appearance. Both drape nicely for elegant decor.
