Instructions

    • 1

Download and print a one size cloth diaper pattern from the Internet. You can find free pattern downloads on sites like DiaperSewing.com.

    • 2

Lay the pattern flat on a table, and measure and mark 5 inches on each corner from the top of the front panel. The marks should be 5 inches apart. Draw a straight line through the two marks.

    • 3

Repeat step 2, measuring 4 inches instead of 5 inches from the top of the front panel. You will therefore have two parallel lines. Label the top line (4 inches) as the back panel and the bottom line as the front panel

    • 4

Measure the distance on your pattern between the rise snaps (usually about 2.5 inches). The rise snaps should be labeled on your downloaded pattern. Cut a rectangular piece of cardboard measuring 2 x 4 inches. Mark 1.25 inches from the center of the rectangular piece in both directions along the length. Punch holes through the marks. Place the cardboard piece on the master pattern to ensure that your measurements are accurate.

    • 5

Fold the suede cloth into two and trace the rise snap pattern on the cloth. Cut out two layers of fabric leaving some space around the borders of the pattern. Mark the snap positions.

    • 6

Apply a socket and a stud on the snap placement markings. Sew the two pieces of suede material together using a sewing machine. Sew along the pattern markings.

    • 7

Trace the master pattern on the wrong side of the suede fabric. Mark the snap placement positions. Place the pattern piece for the rise snaps (the rectangular cardboard piece) on the markings for the rise snaps on the suede fabric so that you can see the markings through the punch holes in the pattern, then trace the pattern onto the fabric.

    • 8

Pin the rise snap piece to the wrong side of the suede fabric with the cap sides facing down. Sew the rise snap piece onto the wrong side of the fabric. Sew along the same lines you sew the two pieces of fabric together.

    • 9

Draw a ¼ -inch border from the top of the front panel. Fold along the line and pin the fabric. Sew the hem down.

    • 10

Place the front panel piece on the outer piece with the right sides facing each other. Lay the back panel piece on the outer piece with the right side facing the outside piece. Pin all the pieces together and sew around the pieces.

    • 11

Insert elastic in the waist and legs and sew the Ultrex fabric on the outer side of the diaper. Apply snaps on the outer side of the diaper.
