1
Clean the damaged area with rag damp with vinegar or bleach for lighter scratches. This will remove any stains from the affected area, as well as clean out any scratches or dents in the Formica. For scratches deep enough to need filling, clean the area with rubbing alcohol as well.
-
2
Rub the area clean dry with a clean, soft cloth and allow the surface to air dry completely.
-
-
3
Put laminate paste onto a putty knife and rub the paste over the scratches. Apply an excess amount to ensure that the scratches are filled. Use the end of the putty knife to scrape away the extra paste and make the filled area level with the surrounding Formica. Wipe up the paste carefully with a damp cloth.
-
4
Allow the paste to dry at least 24 hours.
-
5
Apply a coat of lemon oil or car wax to the repaired area or over the entire countertop. This will polish the laminate paste and make the repaired area less conspicuous.
