How to Install a 5th Wheel

Measure the bed of the truck to determine placement of the trailer king pin. The trailer pin needs to be located about an inch ahead of the truck's rear axle center point.

Place the rails in the truck bed in such a position that the hitch is properly positioned as indicated in step 1. Mark the locations of the holes in the rails on the bed of the truck. Remove the rails and drill 3/4 inch holes through the truck bed.

Place the rails back on the truck bed lining up the rail holes with the drilled holes. Using the bolts and the appropriate bracket kit included with the trailer hitch package, fasten the rails securely to the frame of the truck.

Attach the fifth wheel support and plate to the rails using the cotter pins included in the trailer hitch kit. The trailer king pin slides into this plate and is secured when the latch closes.

Tips & Warnings
A fifth wheel hitch should not be installed in a truck with a plastic bed liner. The liner will deteriorate over time causing the hitch become loose. However, a spray-in liner is acceptable as there is no allowance for any movement.
