Use a binder to bring your students' work together.

Creating a class book about topics covered during the academic year is a wonderful way to recap and review what the group has learned and accomplished. This project is simple enough for second-graders to participate in with a little assistance. You can make this as a keepsake to remain in the classroom and as an item that students can take home. Your students and parents will enjoy seeing their children's work presented in a class book.

Instructions

    • 1

Brainstorm as a class about the topics you've learned during the year. Explain that you will be creating a book to represent these lessons. Write the students' responses on the board. Decide on favorite lessons. You will need one lesson for each member of the class.

    • 2

Transfer the lesson titles to strips of paper. Fold the strips and place them in a bowl or hat.

    • 3

Instruct the students to draw a strip. This will be the page of the book that the student will create.

    • 4

Provide construction paper (lighter colors work best) and art supplies for your students.

    • 5

Present guidelines as to how the students should decorate their pages. Ask them to draw a picture and provide a sentence or caption.

    • 6

Make copies of the students' pages on the copier. Make enough copies so that each student will have one copy of each of the pages.

    • 7

Laminate the original pages with a laminating machine or with self-adhesive laminating paper.

    • 8

Punch holes in the left sides of the construction paper with a three-hole punch.

    • 9

Place the laminated pages into the binder.

    • 10

Hand out each student's copy of the pages of the book and have your students punch holes in the pages and place them in three-ring binders to take home.
