How to Review & Compare SIP & ATA on VoIP
When it comes to communicating over an Internet connection you have multiple options. VoIP is the best known, through providers such as Vonage. However, there are two different connection methods you may want to take into consideration. ATA, or analog telephone adapter, is a method that is used on conjunction with a VoIP connection, while SIP, short for session initiation protocol, is a slightly different audio/video option.

1
Look at the monthly service fee. ATA on a VoIP is going to have a standard monthly rate that may increase if you contact some international countries (depending on your contract). Depending on your SIP service, you may be able to use the service for free. Many Internet audio/video services allow you to contact anyone else with the SIP service without charge.

Check out how much the equipment costs. With SIP you just need a webcam with a microphone. Most computers now have this hardware built directly into the monitor, so there may be no extra cost to you. VoIP requires a converter in addition to the ATA telephone.

Determine who you are going to call. ATA on VoIP can call any cell phone or land-line phone in the world, while SIP can only connect to other individuals with the same service. If you are going to be using this as your primary contact service you probably want to go with the ATA on VoIP.
