How to Use Candle Lanterns
Candle lanterns use a long-burning candle of up to 9 hours as a source of light and are typically made of aluminum with a glass globe. Lightweight in comparison to many propane, white gas or kerosene fueled lanterns, candle lanterns can be an attractive alternative to backpackers seeking to reduce load weight. Light a candle lantern by first accessing the candle. Hold the lantern by the U-shaped handle. Grasp the body of the lantern with the opposite hand and rotate the handle to the side.

Pull the top of the candle lantern off the lower lantern body. Slide the glass globe down into the lower lantern body to expose the wick of the candle.

Light the candle wick with a match or lighter and slide the glass globe back up to prevent wind from extinguishing the flame.

Attach the top of the candle lantern to the lower lantern body. Turn the handle to lock the top and lower body together.

Hang the candle lantern from a limb or suspended inside a tent. Consider placing the candle lantern on a picnic table or on the ground as desired for the best lighting.

Use a candle lantern at home during power outages as a safe alternative to candles with exposed flames.
