How to Make Glass Billets From Sheet Glass
Glass billets are small chunks and pieces of glass of varying sizes with rough edges. The glass billets are uneven in size, and are often unusually shaped. Glass billets are used for making mosaic patterns and for melting together for different art projects. You can make glass billets from a sheet of glass. To make the uneven edges, simply score the glass, rather than cutting it all the way through. This will leave a few jagged or rough edges on the glass, which is ideal for glass billets.

1
Put on safety glasses to protect your eyes from glass shards. Hold the glass cutter like you would a pencil. Place the glass over a drawing board. Place the T square against the section of the glass that you want to cut.
-
2
Dip the blade of the cutter into kerosene before making each cut. Hold the cutter at a sharp angle. Draw the cutter against the glass along the T square. Do not allow the blade of the cutter to go all the way through the glass. You want the glass to be somewhat uneven for glass billets.

3
Score several horizontal lines with the glass cutter throughout the glass sheet. Turn the drawing board the other way, and make several cuts perpendicular to the original cuts in the glass.
-
4
Cover the sheet glass with an old towel to prevent glass shards from flying. Tap the top of the glass with a rubber mallet to separate the pieces of glass into glass billets.
-
5
Grind the edges of each piece of glass on a wet grind stone to eliminate rough edges and to smooth the jagged edges of the glass billet pieces. If you want to leave the edges rough, then do not use a grind store.
