How to Make a Paper Indian Hat
Children love to dress up because it extends their imagination and allows them to more fully immerse themselves in the world of make-believe and fantasy. For parents trying to keep up with fads and fashions in childrens games and dressing up, the bill can mount up. Simple costume accessories, such as an Indian hat or headdress, are easy to make at home and have the added advantage of allowing kids to personalize them further and create their own individual versions.

1
Measure and cut a length of brown craft paper so that it is about 2 inches wide and long enough to go around the child's head. Try on for size and fit.
-
2
Decorate the headband by painting with stripes or zigzags in bright colors. When the paint is dry, tape the ends together to form the headband of the Indian hat.

3
Draw some feather shapes onto colored craft paper and cut them out. The feathers can either be left plain or can be decorated by gluing on glitter or small beads and buttons. Stripes or spots could also be added with contrasting paint.
-
4
Tape the feathers to the inside of the Indian hat band so they stand up around the head.

Tips & Warnings
For more realistic feathers try cutting a fringe into the edges of the feathers by making small cuts, close to each other, towards the middle of the feather shape.
Please supervise small children when using scissors.
