Instructions for Mounting a Snow Blower on a MTD Yard Machine
A MTD Yard Machine tractor and a snow blower attachment can make the winter season much easier to handle. Attaching the snow blower to the MTD Yard Machine allows you to automate the snow shoveling process around your home, property or office. Not only does the snow blower allow you to clear driveways, walkways and paths, it also cuts down on the manual labor and time needed to clear snow. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Mount the idler. Identify the PTO Engagement Plate, which is the bar attached to the weld pin underneath the tractor. From the snow blower items, slide the hair pin clip out from the idler pulley and pin. Attach the idler pulley and pin to the PTO Engagement Plate and secure with the hair pin clip.
-
2
Mount the undercarriage. Identify the belt in the snow blower items that fits the type and size of your tractor -- for example, electric or manual, 42-inch dual-belt drive deck. The snow blower comes with three different belts, so you choose the belt that works with your MTD Yard Machine.
-
-
3
Remove the hair pin clips from the undercarriage. The undercarriage is the housing unit for the belt drive of the snow blower that you will attach to the tractor. There are a total of four hair pin clips that you need to remove from the weld pins on the undercarriage.
-
4
Move the lift lever on the tractor so that the lift arms of the tractor are down. Position the undercarriage so that the two rear holes of the undercarriage line up with the rear lift arm holes of the lever on the underside of the tractor. Slide the clevis pins and the hair pin clips through these two holes to attach the undercarriage to the tractor.
-
5
Lift the arms on the tractor so that they are in the up position. Align the remaining two holes on the undercarriage with the lift arm holes near the front of the lift arm of the tractor. Secure with the clevis pins and the hair pin clips.
-
6
Attach the lift handle to the lift bracket by lining up the holes on each item. Secure with the hex screws and bolts included in the snow blower packaging.
-
7
Tie the lift cable to the lift lever with the two cable ties. Pull the cable ties until the left cable is securely attached to the lift lever.
-
8
Attach the direction control piece to the auger housing, which is the backside of the shovel portion of the snow blower. The directional control unit attaches to upper left portion of the auger with two hex screws and flange nuts.
-
9
Attach the upper chute crank rod to the direction control. Slide the upper chute crank rod through the hole in the top of the chute, down through the middle hole and down into the joint block in the lower chute crank rod. Use cotter pins to hold it in place.
-
10
Tie the chute tilt cables to the direction control with the four cable ties included in the packaging.
-
11
Move the auger unit to the front of the tractor. On the upper lift link on the right side, pull on the support pin and rotate it forward to the "out" position. Repeat for the left side. Push the tractor forward so that the support tubes coming out of the back of the auger are between the front tires of the tractor.
-
12
Pull on the support bar on the left back of the auger, while an assistant pulls on the support bar in the front of the auger so that the hooks on the rear of the auger slide over the hooks on the left and right side of the pivot support brackets on the front of the tractor.
-
13
Place both hands over the label on the front of the auger and push the auger until the support pins holes line up with the front pivot support brackets on the front of the tractor.
-
14
Put the snow blower attachment in the up position while your assistant pulls the support pin on the right of the tractor to align with the hole to the side of the front pivot support bracket. Release the pin to lock it in place. Repeat for the left side.
-
15
Attach the support tubes. Remove the two clevis and hair pins from the front of the undercarriage on the left and right side. Secure the left support tube with the clevis pin and hair pin you just removed from the left side. Repeat for the right support tube with the other clevis pin and hair pin.
-
16
Slide the upper drive belt around the spindle pulley, the pulley on the idler, the undercarriage idler pulley and the clutch of the tractor.
-
17
Slide the lower drive belt onto the lower pulley on the spindle, the two pulleys on the double-idler below the undercarriage, and the drive pulley on the snow blower housing unit.
-
18
Attach the tension spring from the double-idler bracket to the back of the fender of the tractor, using a hex screw.
