How to Add an Aircraft to a Flying Model Simulator

Radio Controlled (RC) flying is as real as it gets for many wannabe pilots. Controlling a model airplane with a radio controller requires skill and precision and can take years to master. Furthermore, RC airplanes are expensive and often cost hundreds of dollars. Computer software programs like Flying Model Simulator (FMS) allow you to practice flying RC planes without having to worry about crashing the model and destroying your investment. There are literally hundreds of model planes available for the freeware FMS application, and installing additional aircraft in the application only takes a few minutes.

Instructions

1. Navigate to a website the offers free FMS models for download. (See Resources.) Download and save the ZIP file on your computer.

2. Click "Start" and then "Computer." Browse to the folder where you saved the FMS model file. Right-click on the file, and then click "Extract Here" on the pop-up menu.

3. Highlight the extracted FMS model folder. Right-click the folder name, then click "Copy" on the pop-up menu.

4. Navigate to the folder "C:\Program Files\FMS\Models." Right-click inside the folder window, and then click "Paste" on the pop-up menu.

5. Launch the FMS application on your computer. Click the "Model" option on the menu bar. Press the "F2" key to refresh the model list. Browse to the folder that contains the new FMS model and double-click the model file to load the plane in FMS.
