How to Hang Wallpaper Boarders
Wallpaper borders add interest and color to rooms. The borders are applied similarly to wallpaper, but borders require less material. Wallpaper borders only require basic skills to hang. Once applied, they can give a room a finished look. Hanging wallpaper borders properly will ensure they remain even and flat on the wall, and avoid a sloppy and unappealing appearance in your room. 1
Measure the wall with measuring tape along the length to determine how much wallpaper border you will need.
-
2
Cut the wallpaper border into strips that will fit on each wall. Leave two to three extra inches on the end of the border to help match the patterns.
-
-
3
Dampen the back of a border that already contains paste with a sponge. Apply a thin layer of wallpaper paste to the back of a wallpaper border that does not come prepasted.
-
4
Apply the border starting at one corner of the wall. Place it at ceiling height and carefully work your way around the room until it covers the wall.
-
5
Smooth out the wallpaper border to remove wrinkles or air bubbles. Smooth the paper with a damp sponge or your hands so that it lays flat against the wall.
-
6
Cover the seams by overlapping them on the wall by 1/4 of an inch. When you hang another strip of wallpaper border, overlap it so the design or patterns line up. Trim any excess off the borders with a razor knife.
-
7
Wipe any excess paste or water from the walls with a towel or washcloth. Allow the wallpaper borders to dry for 24 hours.
