How to Repair a Shark Cordless Sweeper

William Pullman

The Shark cordless sweeper is useful for picking up dirt and debris off carpets and hard floors. Several parts of the cordless sweeper, including the brush roll, squeegee and vacuum belt, will wear down in time. When those parts wear down or out, the sweeper is less effective at cleaning your floors.

You can repair worn or broken parts on your Shark cordless sweeper, instead of replacing the vacuum or having it serviced.

  1. Step on the dust cover release button on the right side of the vacuum head and lift the handle upward to remove it from the head. Turn the vacuum head over so the bottom is facing the ceiling.

  2. Grip the clear, plastic brush cover on the front of the vacuum head and pull the cover out and up to release the locking tabs and remove it from the head.

  3. Press in on the gear box locking tab and lift the box straight up to remove it from the vacuum head. The gear box is located to the right of the brush roll.

  4. Lift up on the right side of the brush roll so that the end cap is out of the slot and then pull the roll to the right to remove it from the vacuum head. Slide the vacuum belt off of the right side of the brush roll.

  5. Press the vacuum belt access panel lock on the right side of the vacuum head and pull up to remove the panel.

  6. Pull the belt off of the motor pulley and dispose of the belt. If the belt is broken, take care to remove any pieces of the belt that may have fallen into the vacuum head. Belt pieces left in the head may interfere with the rotation of the belt.

  7. Slide the new belt in through the access panel and wrap it around the motor pulley using a pair of tweezers.

  8. Wrap the belt around the end cap on the right side of the brush roll, push the left end of the brush roll back into the slot on the vacuum head, and press down on the right side of the brush roll so that it sits in place in the vacuum head. Rotate the brush roll with your hand to ensure it moves freely.

  9. Close the access panel by pressing down on it until it snaps into place.

  10. Pull the old squeegee out of the vacuum head from the right and slide in a new squeegee. The squeegee is located above the brush roll.

  11. Line the gear box up with the slots on the right side of the vacuum head and press down until it snaps in place.

  12. Place the tabs on the back of the brush guard over the slots on the top of the vacuum head and press in gently to replace the brush guard.
