How to Melt Vinyl Siding

Vinyl siding is a plastic exterior for a house or building. The siding can be used as decorative style or weatherproofing of the structure. Vinyl siding can be melted in order to bend the material to fit a specific shape or perhaps recycled into art projects. Regardless your reason for melting the vinyl siding, following the proper instructions will ensure you do not burn the siding. Heat guns are used in many applications, including the melting and molding of plastic materials.

Instructions

1. Place the vinyl siding on a level surface. If the siding is still attached to the house, clear away any nearby objects.

2. Clean the siding with mild soap and water. Rinse the soap off using a wet rag. This will ensure no flammable chemicals or debris remain on the siding.

3. Plug the heat gun into an electrical outlet or an extension cord if no oulet is nearby. Turn the gun on and allow it to heat up. If the gun has multiple settings, start with the low setting.

4. Depress the heat gun trigger and allow the air to penetrate the vinyl siding. Move the gun in slow even motions across the siding. Repeat this process until the siding is melted enough to mold as desired.
