How to Dismantle an Aboveground Pool
At the end of the swimming season, some pool owners, especially those in colder climates, may wish to dismantle their aboveground pools. Instructions for disassembling primarily involve reversing the assembly instructions, with a few considerations to protect the parts from damage and mold. When storing the pool, keep the parts together so you have everything ready for assembly when the next pool season arrives. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Drain the pool completely before dismantling. Follow your local regulations for draining pools; they may prohibit draining pool water in certain locations.
-
2
Unhook any hoses that connect to the pool's intake holes. Remove any pumps from the pool. Most parts unscrew and then pull out.
-
-
3
Insert plugs into the drain and valve openings to close them off. Order replacement plugs through your pool dealer, if your pool is missing the plugs.
-
4
Remove all legs and other supports such as beams, rails and posts. Some parts will pull apart. Other parts are fastened together. Work on each part individually. Use a screwdriver or wrench to loosen and remove screws and bolts. Start on one side of the pool and work to the opposite side.
-
5
Wipe the liner, frame and any accessory parts with a damp, clean cloth to remove dirt buildup. For tougher stains, moisten the cloth with a solution of water and a mild liquid detergent. Rinse thoroughly.
-
6
Set all parts and pool components on the ground to dry. Wait for the parts to dry thoroughly before storing them. Sprinkle talcum power on the vinyl liner, if your pool has one, to absorb moisture and keep the vinyl from sticking to itself.
-
7
Keep all bolts, screws and small parts together in a bag for storage. Fold the liner, groundcloth or frame as compactly as possible before storing. Some pool manufacturers recommend folding the liner into a square shape and then folding it over like closing a book several times until it will no longer fold together.
