How to make CD cover drink coasters
You've played the CD a hundred times and know the lyrics to every song, however the jewel cases collect dust on a shelf or are strewn across your backseat. If you're looking for a way to enjoy your favorite albums by using your eyes and not just your ears, creating drink coasters out of the liner notes will satisfy your senses.
Things You'll Need
- 4.25 inch ceramic tiles (found at hardware stores)
- CD liner notes
- Scissors
- Paper trimmer
- Foam paint brush
- Mod Podge
- Felt
- Waterproof glue
- Ruler
- Clear acrylic sealant
Instructions
-
-
1
Cut the CD cover down to 4 inches on each side with a photo trimmer.
-
2
Brush a thin layer of Mod Podge on the ceramic tile.
-
-
3
Position the CD artwork onto the tile. During this stage, it is possible that air bubbles might get trapped under the artwork. Brush the side of a ruler over the artwork to smooth out any air bubbles.
-
4
Brush another thin layer of Mod Podge over the top of the artwork.
-
5
Spray the coaster with clear acrylic sealant. This will make your coaster waterproof and protect the artwork.
-
6
Affix a felt backing to the tile. Trim the felt to the size of the coaster by placing the coaster on top of the felt and tracing around the edges. It is best that you use a new or sharp pair of scissors so that the edges of the felt remain crisp.
-
7
Glue the felt to the back of the tile, making several glue lines. Once the glue has dried, your coaster is ready for use.

Tips & Warnings
For a more rustic look, choose tiles that have rough edges. You can place the artwork directly onto the tile without trimming the edges, and after the Mod Podge has dried, use a sanding block to trim the any artwork that hangs off the sides.
Spray the coaster with acrylic sealant in a well-ventilated room, as it has a strong odor.
