The GED, also known as the General Education Development diploma, is an alternative to a high school diploma. At one point or another, it becomes essential to obtain some verification that you received and completed a formal primary education. If you live in Ouachita Parish area or Monroe, La.,and want to obtain your GED, the process is relatively simple. However, it will require that you study high school math, science, social studies, reading and writing materials so that you may pass the test.

Visit the Ampy Community Center, Delta Community College, Northeast Technical College or Quachita Parish Education Center in the Quachita area of Monroe, La., to get GED eligibility and forms. According to the Louisiana Department of Education, "Students who are not enrolled in K-12 schools and who are 17 years old or older may be authorized to take the GED tests." The centers offer GED exam preparation class and administers the Test of Adult Basic Education to gauge where you are in your educational needs.

Enroll in the GED prep classes and take the Test of Adult Basic Education. You'll be assigned an adviser that will create a curriculum plan specific to your educational needs. If you are 19 years or older you may not be required to take the Test of Adult Basic Education, however it is advised , but not mandatory. According to the Louisiana Department of Education, "Those who are 19+ years of age can contact the Adult Education program in their area and be scheduled to take the GED. "

Attend your prep classes. GED prep classes range depending on the program your enrolled in. However, most classes are help three to four times a week, for three to four hours for six months. Try not to miss classes. While the GED prep test isn't considered hard, there's a great deal of information you need to retain in order to pass the test.
