How to Print a Bar Code on a LaserJet Printer in Windows

Businesses use bar codes to streamline operations in many different ways. For instance, bar codes can help your business manage inventory, make customer checkouts faster and more efficient and even save your company money on mailing costs. In the past, using bar codes in your business meant purchasing specialty forms from suppliers or buying and installing expensive bar code hardware. Today, however, you can download free bar code fonts on the Internet and use them in virtually all Windows word processing or publishing applications. After you design your forms to include bar codes, printing the symbols with a laser printer is as easy as printing a regular text document.

Instructions

  1. Install a Bar Code Font in Windows

    • 1

Go to a website that allows you to download free bar code fonts (see Resources). Download the bar code font file and save it to a folder on your PC.

    • 2

Click "Start" and then "Computer." Navigate to the folder on your computer where you saved the downloaded bar code file.

    • 3

Right-click the file name of the bar code file, then click "Install" on the pop-up menu. Windows automatically installs the new bar code font and configures it for use in applications on your PC.
