The Whirlpool Duet dryer is one of the push to start dryers that is available from the Whirlpool corporation. On the control panel of the Whirlpool Duet dryer, and similar dryers, you push both a "Power" button and an actual "Start" button to use the dryer. A cycle knob allows you to select your preferred drying cycle, but the "Start" button must be pressed to start the load of laundry. Sometimes you may have problems starting your load of laundry with one of these push to start dryers. Fortunately, you can troubleshoot it on your own.

Step 1

Open and close the dryer door firmly. If the door is not securely closed, the dryer does not start.

Step 2

Look to see if a fuse has blown or if a circuit breaker was tripped when you tried to start the dryer. Usually there are two fuses or breakers for a dryer and one or both might be the problem. Reset the breaker or replace the fuse, if this is the problem. Be sure to use a time-delay fuse instead of a regular fuse. Otherwise, the dryer still won't start.

Step 3

Check to make sure that the dryer is securely plugged into the power outlet. If not, the dryer will not start or may start and stop.

Step 4

Press and hold the "Start" button firmly for up to five seconds. If you are trying to dry a large load of laundry, you need to do this to get the dryer to start.
