How to Learn Club Dancing & the Macarena

Learn how to dance right from your own home.

No one wants to go to the club and look stupid trying to dance. You don't have to be a professional dancer to know how to keep rhythm with your body and movements. Instead of sitting out every song because you're embarrassed by your dance moves (or pretending to be preoccupied at the bar as an excuse not to dance), learn how to dance quickly and easily. With a little practice and time, you'll get the hang of dancing in no time.

Instructions

  1. Learn to Dance

    • 1

Stand in front of a mirror and turn on some music with a fast beat.

    • 2

Listen to the beat, or bass, of the music. Bounce on your toes, or bend at the knees along with the bass.

    • 3

Move your hips along to the music. Once your hips are moving well with your bounce, move your feet along with the music.

    • 4

Move your arms with the music as well. Never keep your arms straight at your sides. Instead, move them out in front of you, raise them above your head occasionally, or clap along with the music to keep your rhythm. Unlike ballroom dancing, there is no set standard or guidelines for club dancing. Just move with the music until you feel comfortable enough to take your dance moves to the dance floor.

    • 5

Take dancing lessons. If you're still not grasping the concept of dancing, take some lessons. Take a couple of friends with you and enroll in a beginner's course at a dance studio near your home.

Put your right arm out in front of you with your palm down, parallel with the floor. Then bring your left arm out in front of you with your palm down, also parallel with the floor.

    • 7

Cross your right arm over your chest and place your right hand on your left shoulder. Cross your left arm over your chest and place your left hand on your right shoulder.

    • 8

Bend your right arm back so your right hand cups the back of your head. Then, bend your left arm back so your left hand cups the back of your head as well.

    • 9

Cross your right arm over your body so your right hand rests on your left hip. Then cross your left arm over your body so your left hand rests on your right hip.

    • 10

Bend both your arms so your right hand is on your right hip and your left hand is on your left hip. Rotate your shoulders back and forth, and as you bend to the ground, turn counterclockwise and start back at Step 1.
