Make your own graduation invitations.

Graduations and formal dances are memorable annual events at high schools across America. Invitations encourage attendance and make participants feel special and welcome. You can save money by making your own invitations to these events and others like back to school parties, or if you are a teacher, you can make your own invitations to invite parents and students to open house classroom events and parent-teacher conferences.

Note details as date, time, locations and dress code for the school event you want to invite parents and/or students to. Plan to send your invitations out at least four weeks prior to the event date, to give attendees ample time to check their schedules and resolve or eliminate potential conflicts that might prevent them from attending your party or event.

Define a theme that complements your event. If you are sending out graduation invitations, consider using a desktop photo editing software program such as Photoshop or Microsoft Photo Editor to create a layout that includes a head and shoulders photo of the graduate along with ceremony details like time, place, date, attire and reception details. Include a separate sheet with directions to the ceremony and reception sites. If you are creating an invitation for a high school prom or homecoming dance party, pick paper that has a border that matches your high school's dance theme. Mention transportation details from the event to the dance or, if the event occurs after the dance, between both locations.

If your event is a back to school party, use a photo editing software program to create a photo invitation that you can print off on precut 4-inch x 6-inch photo paper and mail to invitees. Incorporate common school images such as a school bus, apple or group of children with backpacks on and notebooks in hand as a background. Insert a box with a white background where you can print party details that can be easily read by your invitees.

Save on printing costs by creating your invitations as PFD or HTML documents and emailing them to invitees.
