How to Get a GPA for Home School

Homeschooling is an increasingly popular alternative to traditional schooling for kindergarten through 12th grade. Parents or administrators of homeschool programs typically award students grades for completed coursework. You can also calculate a grade point average for coursework completed in a homeschooling program.

Instructions

1. Determine the weighted average for your completed coursework by assigning a numerical value to each grade received. For example, assign a 4.33 for every A+, with the remaining grades as follows: A = 4; A- = 3.67; B+ = 3.33; B = 3; B- = 2.67; C+ = 2.33; C = 2; C- = 1.67; D+ = 1.33; D = 1; and D- = .67.

2. Multiply the numerical value assigned to each grade by the credits earned for the individual class. If you earned a B+ in a 4-credit class, then you would have 3.33 x 4 = 13.32. Add the individual calculations to determine the total numerical grade value.

3. Determine the total credits earned for all classes by adding the credits awarded for each individual class completed in your homeschool program.

4. Divide the total numerical grade value you calculated in Step 2 by the total credits earned for all classes to determine your overall GPA for your homeschooling program.
