How to Mod an HP LaserJet 1200
The HP LaserJet 1200 series of desktop printers are small enough to fit on your desk but provide the printing power and versatility of larger laser printers. Compatible with both Windows and MacOS, the LaserJet 1200 can print 15 pages of high-quality prints per minute. It also has separate parallel and USB connection ports. While the modification options for the 1200 are somewhat limited compared with those of other models, there are a couple of mods, or modifications, you can make to get the absolute most out of this printer.

1
Add the RAM upgrade to the printer. This mod will increase the amount of memory for print jobs and fonts, making the printer run faster. Although you can purchase RAM upgrades in 8, 16, and 32 MB sticks, use the highest available, 64 MB, to truly max out this printer's memory.

Install the copy/scan attachment to the printer. This mod will effectively turn the 1200 model into a 1220 model by adding the copy and scan functionality for true all-in-one capability. You can use the supplied OCR software to translate scanned pages into text on your computer.

Install the JetDirect Print Server to the printer to effectively turn the 1200 into a 1200n, the networked model. This mod allows your printer to connect to a local area network, where any networked computer may print to it. Also, with the copy/scan attachment installed, you can also scan in color documents and send them over the network to a computer or email address.
