How to Walk in Stilettos on the Treadmill
The stiletto is a type of heel often found on women's shoes and boots. The long, thin heels make walking much different than with any other type of footwear. Beginners often find it uncomfortable and difficult to find balance on the small stiletto platforms, making it undesirable and even embarrassing to wear them in public. A treadmill can be used to become accustomed to walking in these shoes. Best of all, a treadmill can simulate walking in different environments.

1
Put on the stilettos and stand up straight. Properly sized stilettos should allow you to comfortably stand up straight without bent knees. Stand up straight until it feels comfortable.
-
2
Stand on the treadmill and stand in a comfortable position. Set the treadmill to a speed about half as fast as a normal walking speed (about 1.5 miles per hour). Keep the incline flat.
-
-
3
Take steps of a normal stride length and maintain the speed of the treadmill. The heel should hit the treadmill slightly before the toes, but not with as much of a rolling motion used for tennis shoes. Practice walking at this pace until it feels natural.
-
4
Increase the speed to a normal walking pace once the slow pace feels comfortable. Walk at this speed until it feels normal, usually no more than a few minutes.
-
5
Adjust the incline up and down while walking at a normal walking speed.
-
6
Adjust the speed randomly while walking. It's normal to have to stop or slow down periodically while walking in public, especially on sidewalks, so it's good to practice the stop-and-go pace on the treadmill.
