How to Do Men's Long Shag Haircuts
Shag haircuts have gone in and out of style for men since the 1970's. The shag is a relatively simple cut for a stylist to master, and it is even easier to style. Ask for a shag haircut, purchase hair pomade for styling, and you may join the likes of David Cassidy, Owen Wilson and Ashton Kutcher. Shag haircuts are also flattering for balding men, as the bangs can mask a receding hairline. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
-
The Cut
-
1
Thoroughly wet the head of hair.
-
2
Part the top portion of hair -- above ear-level -- into five even sections. Clip each in place, with a hair clip.
-
-
3
Begin by taking the section at the crown and separate it into two even parts. Comb one part straight up and use your haircutting scissors to cut ½ inch in a straight line. Repeat with the remaining part of this section. Re-clip the section of hair you just cut. Repeat the entire process for each of the five sections of hair.
-
4
Remove one clip from the back portion of the head. Combine this hair with the remaining, uncut hair and hold -- to create two even parts. Choose one part, and hold the hair out at a 180-degree angle. Cut the hair, so it blends with the top layers. Repeat with the remaining part, and then repeat the process with the remaining clip at the back of the head.
The Style
-
5
Place two to three drops of hair pomade into the palm of your hand. Combine it with a drop of water.
-
6
Rub the palms of your hands together gently, to distribute the pomade.
-
7
Skim your hands through your hair, coaxing stray hairs into place.
