How to Fix Rips in Nylon Wind Pants

Nylon wind pants are worn by hikers, bikers and campers because they offer a lightweight, waterproof alternative to other types of bottoms. Unfortunately, during these rigorous outdoor activities, the nylon pants can tear, which may lead many to simply throw out the seemingly ruined garment. Nylon pants can be strongly repaired at home without the need for expensive equipment or years of sewing experience. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the area around the tear with soapy water. This will ensure that any dirt, grease or grime found on the pants will not impede the repair.

    • 2

Allow the pants to dry completely and stitch the hole shut with a needle and thread. The sewing job does not need to be perfect as the repair will be covered.

    • 3

Cut away any frayed fabric or strings with a pair of scissors.

    • 4

Cut the nylon piece inside of the repair kit into a section that is approximately 1/4 to 1/2 inch larger than the torn area.

    • 5

Peel away the patch's backing and place the patch onto the affected area. Rub the patch in overlapping circles to work out air bubbles.

    • 6

Allow the patch to dry for 2 hours. The nylon pants can be worn after this time period, although it can take 12 to 24 hours for the patch to completely adhere to the nylon pants.
