How to Adjust a Genie Garage-door Opener

Save

The Genie Company has been in the garage-door opener business since 1923. Since then, Genie has worked hard to make their radio-controlled residential garage-door openers a household name. Genie garage-door openers are known for their dependability, but if your system doesn't seem to be working quite right, you can adjust the open and close limit and force settings to have it working again in just minutes.

  • Erase the previously saved open and close travel limits from the power head unit's memory before adjusting the travel limits and force settings for your garage door opener. Hold down the "Open Set" and "Close Set" buttons on the power head unit control panel until the green indicator light flashes to confirm that the travel limit settings have been erased.

  • Program your Genie garage-door opener to recognize when the door is completely closed. Press and release the "Close Travel Limit" button to move the chain or belt connector forward to engage the Carriage Assembly. Press the "Close Travel Limit" button again, and hold it down until the bottom of the door is pressed firmly against the ground. Press and release the "Close Set" limit button to save the door's closed position into memory; the green indicator light will flash once to confirm the new setting.

  • Program the garage-door opener to recognize when your garage door is completely open. Hold down the "Open Travel Limit" button until the door has raised all the way. Push the "Open Set" limit button, then release, to save the door's position as the new open limit setting; the green indicator light will flash twice to confirm.

  • Adjust the "Close Force" control to change the amount of force your garage door opener uses to close the door. Locate the "Open Force" and "Close Force" controls to the right of the travel limit and set buttons on the power head unit control panel. Turn the "Close Force" control to the left to decrease the amount of force used; turn the control to the right to increase it.

  • Adjust the "Open Force" control to change the amount of force used to open your garage door. Twist the "Open Force" control to the left to decrease the force used to open your door, or to the right to increase the amount of force used.
