How to Pull a Jet Ski Behind a Motor Home

How to Pull a Jet Ski Behind a Motor Home thumbnail
Enjoy the water with a jet ski.

With all of their amenities, motorhomes are good base camps for sports outings like trips to the lake or ocean for jet skiing. They are not built to transport a jet ski on top, but most motorhome hitches are good for towing a small jet ski trailer with the watercraft.

Things You'll Need

  • Small boat trailer or utility trailer
  • Winch
  • Attachment straps
  • Bungee cords
  • Jet ski cover

Instructions

    • 1

Attach the trailer to the motorhome's tow-hitch receiver. This is a hollow square tube protruding in the middle of the rear-end of the motorhome. Plug the trailer wire plugs into the motorhome wire fixtures. Sit in the motorhome and assign an assistant to stand in the back of the trailer while you turn on signal and brake lights, ensuring the trailer lights are connected properly.

    • 2

Back the trailer down to the water or boat launch where the jet ski is docked. Attach the winch cable to the jet ski tow-loop on the bow. Turn the winch on and slowly pull the jet ski up and onto the boat cradles on the trailer. Stay to one side guiding the jet ski onto the cradles and have the assistant do the same opposite you.

    • 3

Place the attachment straps over the sides of the jet ski, all the way across and tighten according to the system's attachment connections. Place the cover over the jet ski to prevent road grime and rocks from damaging the jet ski exterior. Cinch the cover down to the trailer with the bungee cords.

    • 4

Adjust the side mirrors on the motorhome so the trailer is at least in partial view. Practice feathering the brakes as your drive to compensate for the added weight in the back of the motorhome. Keep the turning radius in mind for turns in traffic or parking lots, as the trailer reduces the already truncated turn radius of the motorhome.
