How to Present a SAN Drive to a VM

A virtual machine allows you to install and host multiple operating systems on a single system. With a virtual machine, you install separate software containers that act as individual computers. VMware pioneered virtualization technology in the 1990s and realized that shared storage was essential to an effective VM platform. Although a single server can run several virtual machines, inadequate amounts of hard drive space is often an obstacle to effective implementation. A Storage Area Network is a device that hosts multiple hard drives on the computer network. Therefore, SANs are an ideal choice for addressing large-volume storage concerns associated with virtual machines.
