How to Make a Mermaid Costume Extra Special
The mermaid costume is a Halloween staple worn by both children and adults. In addition to making or purchasing a glittery tail and shell bra, make your mermaid costume stand out with intricate makeup, long flowing tresses adorned with ornaments and ropes of pearls. Create patterns on your face and hands with faux crystals and sequins and look for appropriate accessories such as mirrors or even your significant other dressed up as a pirate or sailor.

1
Define the eyes with deep blue or green eyeliner all around the eyes. Dust assorted green, sparkly white and blue eyeshadow all around your eyes, including underneath your bottom lashes, lids, brow bones and even your eyebrows. Fill in the inner and outer corners of your eyes with shadow as well. Wear exaggerated false eyelashes -- look for ones in shades of blue or green or those that are multi-hued. Apply a shimmery pinkish lipstick.

Add additional dazzling makeup effects, such as gluing assorted green and blue sequins to your forehead and down the sides of your face. Use glitter glue, a special type of makeup glue for the face and can be found at any costume or Halloween store, to attach the sequins. The pattern is up to you. Don't worry about getting the pattern lines perfectly straight because you are dealing with round objects. Cover your entire forehead and use less sequins as work your way down the sides of your face near the ears.

Use nautical-themed hair ornaments and jewels throughout your hair. Purchase a wig or fall if your hair is not long enough. Add strips of green and blue fabric or hair color to tresses and add loose glitter all through hair as well.

4
Wear a few long ropes of pearls or other appropriate jewelry if desired. Wear blue and green bracelets or attach sequins to your hands and up your arms in assorted patterns.

Glue small faux crystals to the eyelids right above the lash lines.
