Create your own thank you card

Receiving hand-made cards is always a pleasure. It shows the sender has spent time and thought on creating the card just for you. Make them yourself in Publisher and/or you can use sites on the Internet that provide templates. You then edit and print them at home on your color printer. It takes time but is worth it to create a unique thank you card for your friend or relative.

Instructions

    • 1

Download software to make printable greeting cards from a website specializing in this, such as Smilebox, MyFunCards and Blue Mountain.

    • 2

Insert your own images or clip art. Add text, change colors and make the card your own. Each site has its own way of working. Generally, you click on the picture box and insert your own photo. Click on the text box and insert your own text.

    • 3

Print your creation. You may have to run the card in twice to print on both sides if you don't have a duplex printer. Should your design have photos on it, you may want to use a glossy card.

    • 4

Click "Greeting Cards" in Publisher. Choose "Thank you" and the design you prefer. Click on "Create." Set the page size on the left hand by clicking on "Change Page Size" and choosing whether you want a top- or side-fold, and the exact size of the card.

    • 5

Design your card starting with inserting photos. Click "Insert picture" on the ribbon and choose from the photos in your folder. Add text by clicking on text boxes that are on pages three and four. You can add in your own borders by right clicking on the text box and then "Border Art" in the dialog box that appears. There is possibly more flexibility using this method than templates from websites on the Internet, but these sites have more creative designs and cartoons.

Tips & Warnings

  • Test your creation by printing it out on plain paper first.

  • Check your printer will take card.
