How to Refill a Swimming Pool

How to Refill a Swimming Pool thumbnail
Refill your pool with clean water at the beginning of summer.

Whether filling an above-ground or in-ground pool, you can use the same water source to refill your swimming pool. While a pool maintenance company might use a water truck to fill your pool, it's unnecessary as the primary difference is the amount of time it takes to fill your pool. Pool companies may offer water that they claim is of higher quality, but you can address any quality issues by applying pool chemicals to the water after you fill the pool. Use your garden hose as an easier -- and probably cheaper -- way to refill your swimming pool. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Fill the pool in direct sunlight, if filling an above-ground pool. The sun's heat will help to stretch the liner as the pool fills.

    • 2

Lay your water hose, connected to a spigot, on the bottom of your pool.

    • 3

Turn on the spigot to a steady pressure level.

    • 4

Wait for the pool to fill until it reaches halfway up your skimmer, if you have a skimmer attached to your pool. Otherwise, aim for filling the water to about 3 to 6 inches from the pool top.

    • 5

Turn off the water flow at the spigot and lift the water hose out of the water.
