How to Find Recalls on Mattresses

Save

Recalls occur for when a product is unsafe or it does not meet quality standards. Both voluntary and government-controlled recalls are listed online with governmental agencies that protect consumer rights. For example, Recall.gov is a website dedicated to making governmental recalls easy to find. Finding information about recalls on your mattress can allow you to receive compensation for a product that has been deemed unsafe or substandard.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer with Internet access
  • Navigate your computer's web browser to Recall.gov. This website is a government-sponsored search engine for all governmental recalls.

  • Locate the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's (CPSC) link on the upper left-hand corner of the page. The block contains the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission emblem and the label CPSC Recalls.

  • Click on the link that says "Product Type." It is located below the CPSC emblem, under the "Or Search By" options. This will open a new window that links you directly with the CPSC recall site.

  • Scroll through the alphabetical list of product types on the left-hand side of the screen below the second box until you locate the category titled, "Mattresses and Covers."

  • Click on "Mattresses and Covers." When the option has been correctly selected it will be highlighted in blue.

  • Click on the "Find" button in box two above the product category list. This will navigate you to the mattress recall page.

  • Read through the list of recalls. The list includes all mattress recalls under the auspices of the Consumer Product Safety Commission from 1976 to present. The list is organized chronologically and includes manufacturer information, recall date and reason for recall.

  • Click on the link for mattress recall that interests you. This will navigate your browser to a page with more detailed and specific information about the recall. This will include information about how to receive compensation if a product you own has been recalled.
