How do I Find the Axle Weights on an International 4700 Truck?

International 4700 trailers use four wheels to haul loads. Like most trailers, however, the International 4700 features a main "tractor" portion, or the truck part where the driving and steering is done, and the "trailer" portion, where the loads are stored and placed until they can be safety removed. You can find the weight of both the front and rear axles by determining the weight of the trailer, its load, and the tractor.

• Weight scale
• Pencil
• Paper
• Calculator

Instructions

1. Measure the weight of the load the trailer is carrying with a weight scale, and write this number down with pencil and paper; for example, if you measure the total load as 500 lbs., write this number down.

2. Add the trailer's weight to the load's weight with the calculator. For example, if the trailer is 4,000 lbs. and the load is 500 lbs., this number will be 4,500 lbs. and is the weight for the back, or tandem, axle. Write down this number with the pencil and paper.

3. Use the tractor's weight to determine the front axle's weight to finish. For example, if the tractor weighs 6,000 lbs., then the front axle weighs 6,000 lbs. Write this number down with the pencil and paper.

• Drive the truck to a weighing station if you don't know the weight of it or its trailer.
