How to Build a Moving Book Case
Bookcases are storage units for books, for sure, but also much more. They serve as a spot to get just about anything up off the ground. If you can build the bookcase to have wheels, then you have not only storage but movable storage. The ability to move the bookcase will enable you to clean under it, to move books from one area to another or to simply access an area behind it. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Choose a bookcase design that is short -- no more than 3 or 4 feet high since you do not want to have to worry about the shelf tipping over when you move it.
-
2
Assemble the bookcase with boards, crates, old dresser drawers or anything similar. Screw the parts together soundly so that when you move the bookcase, all the shelves stay in place securely.

3
Purchase 3-inch, medium-duty, hard plastic caster wheels with brakes, with a screw plate to hold them in place so that they will not only hold the weight and swivel easily to any direction but also stay in place once you put the brakes on.
-
4
Flip the bookcase over on its side so that you have access to the bottom panel. Screw four caster wheels into the bottom on the outside edges, using an electric drill with a screw bit and the screws that came with the wheels. If the shelf is wider than 3 feet, add another two wheels in the center to support the extra weight.

Turn the shelf back over and test the wheels to make sure the screws are all tight.
