How do I Troubleshoot a Delta 22-580?
The Delta 22-580 is a two-speed finishing planer for wood. A planer is designed to remove small layers of material from the face of a wood board. When a problem occurs with the planer, you need to find the cause, to make the repair or correction. The type of planer has a switch that may be locked, the range of depth may not be properly set or the wood may not be planing as expected.
Instructions
-
Switch is Locked
-
1
Find the location of the switch on the left side of the planer.
-
2
Verify that there is a padlock or other locking mechanism in the hole on the planer and the infeed table. If the switch is locked, the machine will not operate.
-
-
3
Unlock the padlock with the key. If you do not have a key for the lock, cut it with a pair of bolt cutters.
Depth Range Not Correct
-
4
Lower the cutterhead of the planer to the depth that you need.
-
5
Press and turn the knob for the depth stop clockwise until it stops.
-
6
Press down on the knob again and turn it ¼ of a turn until you see the depth gauge stop.
-
7
Raise the cutterhead to insert the wood that needs to be planed.
-
8
Raise the cutterhead ½ a turn and then turn the knob for the depth stop counter-clockwise.
Wood Not Planing Correctly
-
9
Place the board face down and send it through the planer until the opposite side of the board is flat.
-
10
Turn the board over and plane the other side until both sides are flat.
-
11
Continue to plane both sides of the board until it reaches the desired thickness.
-
12
Repeat this process if the board begins to bow or warp when planing.
